GST on Supplies of Low Value Goods to Australian Consumers: Delayed Until 1 July 2018

June 2017

Baker Tilly Pitcher Partners recently prepared a tax bulletin in respect of the delay regarding the proposed changes to GST in Australia. Previously, the firm prepared a bulletin which outlined the Australian government’s intention to apply GST to sales of “low value goods” by offshore vendors to consumers in Australia. These changes were initially proposed from 1 July 2017, however this has been delayed until 1 July 2018. The Government has also ordered a Productivity Commission report to assess the effectiveness of the proposed method for collection of GST under the changes that have been made.

Please contact your local Pitcher Partners representative or tax.desk@bakertillyinternational.com if you wish to discuss any aspect of GST, VAT or the proposed changes.
