Baker Tilly Berk Appoints Anneke van Zanen-Nieberg as Chair of the Firm's Board

General Director of the Central Government Audit Service Joins Accountancy Firm 

Effective 1 March 2018, Anneke van Zanen-Nieberg will assume the role of Chair of the Board of Directors of Baker Tilly Berk. She was appointed at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders of Baker Tilly Berk on 25 November 2017.

By appointing an external Chair, Baker Tilly Berk aims to accelerate and deepen its change programme and the implementation of its measures to improve the accountancy profession.

Effective 1 March 2018, the Baker Tilly Berk Board of Directors will comprise: Anneke van Zanen-Nieberg (chair), Marcel Huisman and Rob Loves.

Speaking on her appointment, Anneke commented: "I see this as a great new challenge, to which I will gladly devote my energy."

Michel de Graaf, chairman of the Supervisory Board and audit partner at Baker Tilly Berk, said: "We are pleased to announce Anneke's appointment as chair of the Board of Directors. Anneke is a skilled, creative and enthusiastic administrator who performs her duties with a professional, pragmatic attitude".

Changes to the Supervisory Board

Additionally, effective 1 January 2018, Joke van Lonkhuijzen-Hoekstra will assume the role of chair of the Supervisory Board of Baker Tilly Berk.

Joke's appointment means that the firm’s Supervisory Board will be made up entirely of members from outside the firm. This was one of the key improvements suggested by the report 'In the public interest' [In het publiek belang].

Effective 1 January 2018, the firm's Supervisory Board will comprise: Joke van Lonkhuijzen-Hoekstra (chair), Prof. Peter van der Zanden and René Leander.

Speaking on the development, Michel de Graaf said: “We are incredibly proud that these two model professionals are bringing their knowledge and experience to Baker Tilly Berk."

Background Anneke van Zanen-Nieberg

Anneke van Zanen-Nieberg (53) obtained her RA (registeraccountant) qualification at the Dutch educational system for chartered accountants (NBA, formerly Nivra), after which she spent most of her career working in the Dutch civil service, filling several positions. After serving as Director of the Court of Audits, she became Interim Secretary General at the Ministry of Justice and Security. She is currently Head of the Central Government Audit Service, where she will remain until 1 December 2017. In her spare time, she is an active sports administrator, serving as Chair of CTO Metropool, a member of the Board of Special Olympics National Games The Hague 2020, and a member of the Sports Advisory Board of The Hague.

Background Joke van Lonkhuijzen-Hoekstra

Joke van Lonkhuijzen-Hoekstra (57) is an administrator with vast experience in the healthcare sector. She is currently Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Postdoctoral Degree Programme in Change Management at VU Amsterdam, a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea B.V. and a member of the Supervisory Board of Monuta Holding NV/ Monuta Verzekeringen NV.  In the past, she has held positions as Chair of the Board of Directors of GGZ inGeest, a member of the Board of GGZ Netherlands, a member of the Board of NVZD and a member of the Board of Directors of Cordaan.
